Disaster Response gets a Conservation Boost

The BC Heritage Emergency Response Network (BC HERN) was established in 2015 to coordinate disaster response and collections salvage support in the aftermath of several institutional emergencies and in light of the growing risk to collections due to climate change. BC HERN delivers training, connects cultural sector workers, and has established caches of emergency supplies around the Province.

Conservation Technician Katie McEvoy assists with the emergency salvage of water-damaged furs.

BC HERN partners include the Royal BC Museum and five other large arts and culture institutions in British Columbia (Museum of Anthropology, Burnaby Village Museum; Vancouver Art Gallery, Museum of Vancouver, and the City of Vancouver Archives).  Learn more about the BC HERN at www.bchern.ca.

Royal BC Museum Senior Conservator, Kasey Lee, is a founding member of the BC HERN network. You can learn more about her current research by visiting her project profile page
